IFS China Focus Day in Shanghai 2020

Innovative  technology enables food safety

On Aug 13, 2020, IFS International  Featured Standards (hereinafter referred to as IFS) held the 6th IFS China Focus Day in Shanghai. More than 200 experts and professors, management representatives of food enterprises gathered at this conference. Focus on the theme of "Innovative technology enables food safety", the participants discussed food safety management, international standard, innovative technology and best practices from multiple perspectives. 

Dr. Chuanwu Xiong who is the leader of the IFS Asia office welcomed all participants and introduced all speakers. Mr. Stephan Tromp, IFS General Manager gave the opening speech from Berlin, he thanked all participants for attending the 6th IFS Focus Day in this special situation and introduced the latest changes in the development of IFS standards and IFS digital tools, he mentioned that the COVID-19 pandemic must not stop us working together worldwide in the future, IFS digital tools will help companies in the food supply chain to minimize risks.

We were honored to invite Mr. Chen Xiangrong, Deputy Director of the food production safety supervision department, Shanghai Administration for market regulation,and shared with participants the experience of improving the food safety management of food producers in Shanghai. Mr. Chen said China's economic development has changed from high-speed growth mode to high-quality development mode, consumers pay more attention to quality than quantity. Shanghai government strives to promote the high-quality development of food production through benchmarking international standards.

Mr. Ye Zhiping, former Director of Certification and Supervision Department of Shanghai CIQ summarized the application status and trend of HACCP by accurate data. In China, 13,000 export food production enterprises have established and implemented HACCP system, 56 third-party certification bodies approved by CNCA have issued HACCP certificates to 8519 food producers and catering enterprises, By June 2020, 12,669 HACCP certificates have been issued in China. Mr. Ye said that the establishment and implementation of HACCP is the necessary item for food enterprises and is an important method to prevent risks.

Mr. Chu Dong, Vice-Secretary General of CCFA shared the new ideas from "supporting SME enterprises mode" to international standard: food enterprises should improve management with standard, market needs have transferred from the baseline standards to high-quality standards and we should promote good standards together to transfer trust. Comprehensively improving the quality of goods and services to promote high-quality economic development.

Dr. Zhongchao Sun, Deputy Secretary General of China Animal Health and Food Safety Alliance analyzed the current situation of China's animal husbandry industry, the main challenges and the safety of animal foods.

Dr. Chuanwu Xiong, leader of the IFS Asia office shared the comprehensive information about IFS standards, the latest updates of IFS Food 7, details of IFS digital tools and IFS IPA evaluation, etc.

Dr. Zhinong Yan, Executive Director of Walmart Food Safety Collaboration Center introduced the digital case of Walmart and the latest information about US FDA to show the importance of a digital and transparent food system in the complex supply chain, he mentioned the new era of smarter food safety supervision will coming in the food industry.

Dr. Chengzhang Liu from the food safety & technology innovation office of Ting Hsin International Group shared the innovative food safety management of the whole industry chain, manage data from raw material to stores and restaurants by a digital system.

Mrs. Yao Hui, QA Director of Pepsico China shared the design and development process of food safety from a professional perspective, said that systematic risk management tools are the basis of food safety and quality design.

Special thanks to Dr. Yue Jin, Deputy Director of Bor S. Luh food safety research center, Shanghai Jiao Tong University hosted the conference in the morning, and Ms. Jiang Xin, General Technical Consultant of IQC hosted the conference in the afternoon.  

Mr. Wang Hai, Project Director of IQC elaborated on the requirement of international standards and customer requirements about food safety culture and specifically shared the practical cases of food safety culture projects from the framework, planning, implementation, and certification.  

Dr. Li Dekun, Director of Intertek Group introduced how to improve the enterprise through IFS International Standard certification, including the specific certification agreement, process, cycle, scope and requirements information, so that participants can fully understand the IFS International Standard certification process.


Shanghai Tongchao Logistics Co., Ltd. which passed the IFS logistics certification, as the IFS certified company representative, Mr. Yu Jiayang shared the whole process from the first contact with IFS to the implementation of the IFS system, Mr. Yu said the IFS system decreased their gaps and was very helpful to their business, he promised that their team will continue to implement the IFS standards as a daily habit to provide better services to their clients.

Ms. Peng Yaoli, Marketing Supervisor of METTLER TOLEDO introduced their whole process management solution for the food industry.

"Food Safety go together" is an online public benefit activity, Mr. Gu Xiang, Founder and General Manager of Minder PMPs as the representative to share the vision and the 19 online activities, confirmed that already 7,399 people from the food industry participated in the activities.

The official release of "Food Safety go together" was held, and more food-related enterprises were invited to cooperate to carry out more public benefit activities together to promote the development of food safety in China.


Dr. Juanjuan Sun from "Sam Walton' food safety law researcher of the center for coordination and innovation of food safety governance in Renmin University interpreted the item 136 exemption clauses in food safety law in detail.

Ms. Hao Liu who is the lawyer of Shanghai Sun & Chance law firm explained how to deal with the food safety crisis and the claims.

Mr. Gerry Wu, Head of Quality Center of Meituan deeply analyzed the pain points of fresh food supply chain, the scene of new retail business, the change factors and the new ideas and technical standards of quality management of new retail.  

Mr. Zhu Yi, Quality General Manager of Three Squirrel comprehensively shared their quality management system and good practice from data-driven, food safety, food flavor and food safety culture.

The last part of the conference is the Retail Channel Panel Discussion "How to use innovative thinking to deal with food safety challenges under the epidemic situation". Mrs. Jiang Xin, Deputy Director of industry policy research department of CCFA hosted it. Mr. Pan Bingwei, Director of Chairman's office of Sun Art Retail Group Limited, Mr. Liu Bingyi, Food Safety Director of Carrefour Chian, Mr. Liang Baolong, Vice General Manager of Lianhua supermarket, Mr. Chen Jianguo, Food Safety Director of Yonghui supermarket joined the discussion.

Every representative introduced their experience to deal with the food safety challenges during the epidemic and their innovative solution to bring high-quality products to consumers.

At the end of the meeting, IFS Asia Office leader Dr. Chuanwu Xiong gave the closing speech. Dr. Zhinong YAN, Walmart Food Safety Collaboration Center Executive Director gave a poem to the conference. The 6th IFS China Focus day successfully ended.
