IFS PPWR Conformance is a solution that systematically evaluates whether your processes for collecting and managing packaging-related data and documentation are robust and effectively implemented.

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) sets out requirements for economic operators placing packaging on the EU market. Depending on your role, your business must fulfil specific obligations to demonstrate compliance.

The IFS PPWR Conformance Solution provides a solid foundation for systematically managing the information necessary to meet PPWR requirements. It helps you demonstrate that you have robust processes in place to provide reliable packaging-related data and documentation, and to address other relevant PPWR obligations.

How it works

The IFS PPWR Conformance Solution follows a two-step approach. By completing the self-assessment in the IFS Database, you gain an initial indication of the implementation status of your PPWR-related processes.

If your self-assessment result indicates that a more in-depth evaluation could be beneficial, you can have an auditor conduct the IFS PPWR Conformance Check on-site or remotely.

IFS PPWR Conformance Workflow

Step 1 – The IFS PPWR Conformance Self-Assessment

Your business partner asks your company to complete the IFS PPWR Conformance Self-assessment in the IFS Database.
In the online questionnaire, you select the packaging types that apply to your products and indicate whether environmental claims are used.
You answer the relevant questions on PPWR-related processes and upload supporting documents where applicable, such as technical documentation, EU declarations of conformity, test reports or other evidence. The result provides an initial indication of the implementation status of relevant PPWR-related processes.
Together with your business partner, you can decide whether the information provided is sufficient or whether a follow-up is needed.

Step 2 – The IFS PPWR Conformance Check

(Currently under development.)

The IFS PPWR Conformance Check provides a more in-depth evaluation of PPWR-related processes and of conformance with relevant requirements.
It can be conducted on-site or remotely by independently trained IFS Auditors or Assessors.
Where applicable, the check can be combined with an IFS Audit or Assessment or performed as a standalone check.
The outcome can support targeted follow-up actions.
